The Nigeria Police Force has released guidelines for Nigerians seeking to obtain a Police Character Certificate or a Tinted Glass Permit through its Police Specialised Services Automation Project portal.
The Force said the digital platform allows applicants to complete most of the application process online before appearing at a selected police command or formation for biometric capture.
According to the guidelines, applicants requesting a Police Character Certificate must first complete an online application form with details such as their preferred means of identification, which could be a National Identification Number, Bank Verification Number or International Passport.
Other information required includes the applicant's identification number, full name, telephone number, email address, gender, state of residence, local government area, residential address and an optional alternative contact.
For the Tinted Glass Permit, the police said applicants are expected to select the service on the portal, complete the online application form, verify the information supplied and proceed with payment.
The Force noted that applicants for the permit would also provide the same personal information required for the Police Character Certificate application.
The police warned that approval of applications would be based on its operational and security guidelines, adding that any applicant found to have submitted false information, forged documents or fraudulent biometric records would have the application rejected and could face legal consequences.
It further directed applicants residing in Nigeria to report in person to their chosen police command or formation on the scheduled date for biometric enrolment.
The Force added that every application attracts a one-time, non-refundable processing fee payable exclusively through the POSSAP portal using the payment invoice generated during registration.
It emphasised that applicants should not pay any additional charges at police formations for biometric capture or collection of approved certificates and permits.
According to the police, successful applications are processed and issued within a minimum period of 72 hours after all application requirements have been fulfilled.
