A coroner's court in the United Kingdom has ruled that a 27-year-old Nigerian caregiver, Beatrice Solomon, died by suicide following a prolonged struggle with mental health challenges linked to personal difficulties.
Solomon, who relocated to the UK in November 2023 on a skilled worker visa, was found unresponsive at her residence on Norris Road, Stanfield.
During the inquest, the court heard that her husband, Damian Butler, had left home for work before returning later that day, when he found her unconscious and alerted emergency services.
A police officer who testified at the hearing said paramedics responded promptly but Solomon was confirmed dead shortly after their arrival. Investigators found no evidence of foul play or third-party involvement.
Butler told the court that his wife had experienced mental health difficulties over the previous year, which he said were connected to ongoing personal issues. He also disclosed that she had previously shown signs of being in serious mental distress.
A post-mortem examination attributed her death to oxygen deprivation, while Coroner Li Hammond-Naylor concluded that the available evidence showed Solomon had intentionally taken her own life.
Expressing sympathy to the bereaved family, the coroner said, "I can only extend my sincere condolences to Beatrice's family and friends."
Solomon, who worked as a caregiver, is survived by her husband, their son and other family members.
