Northwest University, Kano State, has dismissed 34 students after they were found guilty of examination-related offences during the 2024/2025 academic session.
The decision followed the approval of the institution's Senate at its 66th regular meeting held on June 17 and 18, according to a statement released by the university's Public Relations Unit.
The statement, signed by the Head of the unit, Abubakar Ibrahim, on behalf of the Registrar, Dr Isyaku Adamu, said the disciplinary measures were based on the recommendations of the Senate Committee on Examination Misconduct.
It explained that the affected students were sanctioned in line with the university's examination regulations as contained in the Students' Handbook.
Apart from the 34 students expelled, the Senate also approved the suspension of 18 others over separate examination malpractice cases.
The institution further disclosed that 22 students received warning letters for offences considered less severe.
It added that one student, Rukayya Ahmad Zukuri, was discharged of all allegations after the Senate reviewed the evidence presented in her case and found no basis for disciplinary action.
The university reaffirmed its commitment to preserving academic excellence and maintaining the credibility of its examination process.
It also urged students to comply strictly with institutional regulations, warning that any conduct capable of compromising academic integrity would continue to attract appropriate disciplinary measures.
