The African Democratic Congress candidate for the Akure South/Akure North Federal Constituency in the 2027 general election, Balarabe Abiodun Akinwumi, has commenced his grassroots campaign with a tour of wards in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State.
Akinwumi, who began the mobilisation on Friday, visited Wards 5, 3, 8 and 12 alongside members of his campaign team and other party stakeholders, engaging party leaders, supporters, women and youth groups.
The exercise came two days after the Independent National Electoral Commission lifted the ban on campaigns for the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections, paving the way for political parties and candidates to commence open campaigns.
The ADC campaign train was received by enthusiastic supporters in the various wards, with party members pledging their support for the candidate and promising to strengthen the party’s grassroots structure ahead of the election.
Addressing the party faithful, Akinwumi called for unity and greater commitment among members, urging them to take the ADC’s message to residents across the constituency.
He said, “Our strength is in our grassroots. We must remain united, committed and consistent in engaging our people and listening to their concerns.”
The candidate said the ward visits were not solely about seeking votes but also provided an avenue to hear directly from residents about their challenges, expectations and aspirations.
Akinwumi thanked the ward leaders and members for the warm reception, assuring them that he would maintain regular engagement with the people throughout the electioneering period.
The ward leaders, in their separate remarks, welcomed the candidate and pledged to mobilise members for the growth of the ADC and its success in the 2027 election.
The campaign team is expected to extend the ward tour to the remaining 19 wards in the constituency as part of efforts to consolidate the party’s grassroots presence before commencing a wider campaign across Akure South and Akure North.
