The Vice Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Prof. Tomola Obamuyi, has expressed the institution's condolences to the family of its former Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Oladele Awobuluyi, who died on Thursday.
In a statement issued on behalf of the university community, Obamuyi described the late scholar as an exceptional academic, visionary administrator and principled leader whose contributions significantly shaped the growth of the institution.
The Vice Chancellor recalled that Awobuluyi served as Acting Vice Chancellor between June 2009 and January 2010, during which he introduced far-reaching academic and administrative reforms that strengthened the foundation of the then young university.
"During his tenure as Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Awobuluyi introduced remarkable innovations and laid solid academic and administrative structures that positioned the university on the path of excellence and earned it recognition within and outside Nigeria," the statement said.
Obamuyi also hailed the late professor's outstanding contributions to the field of linguistics, noting that he played a pivotal role in establishing and developing the university's Department of Linguistics while earning international respect as a distinguished scholar.
He said, "Prof. Awobuluyi was a visionary leader, an accomplished scholar and a committed administrator whose wealth of experience continued to benefit the university even after his retirement. His legacy will remain indelible."
Describing the late academic as a father figure to the Department of Linguistics and a pillar of university governance, the Vice Chancellor said his death was a great loss to the institution and the academic community.
He assured the bereaved family of the university's support during the difficult period and prayed for the peaceful repose of the deceased's soul as well as the strength for his family to bear the irreparable loss.
