Some students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State, have raised concerns over the delay in receiving refunds under the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, despite completing the required withdrawal process several months ago.
The affected students, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said they submitted their withdrawal requests between January and February but had yet to receive the refunds in their bank accounts.
According to them, the prolonged delay has sparked anxiety among beneficiaries, who expected the institution to refund fees already paid before their NELFUND loans were disbursed.
One of the students described the situation as distressing, saying the delay had created financial difficulties for many beneficiaries awaiting the payment.
"It is frustrating. I need my money, but the school has not refunded me," the student said.
Other affected students appealed to the university management to explain the cause of the delay and provide a clear timeline for the refund exercise.
They noted that many beneficiaries were depending on the refunds to meet urgent financial obligations and urged the institution and relevant authorities to expedite action on the process.
Under the NELFUND policy, students who paid their tuition before their approved loans were released are entitled to receive refunds from their institutions.
Efforts to obtain the reaction of the Adekunle Ajasin University management were unsuccessful, as no official statement had been issued on the matter as of the time this report was filed.
