The campaign organisation of the Osun State governorship candidate of the Accord Party, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has raised the alarm over an alleged plot to frustrate his victory in Saturday’s governorship election by declaring the poll inconclusive.
The allegation was contained in a statement signed by the Chairman of the Media and Publicity Committee of the Imole Campaign Council, Rep. Bamidele Salam, on Saturday.
Salam alleged that the Independent National Electoral Commission was being pressured by some governors and leaders of the All Progressives Congress to declare the election inconclusive.
He described the alleged move as a desperate attempt to overturn what he called the choice of the Osun electorate, urging the electoral commission to uphold its commitment to conducting a free, fair and credible election.
The campaign council also appealed to security agencies to intensify surveillance and protect collation centres across the state against any attempt to disrupt the electoral process.
It called on the Inspector-General of Police, the Director-General of the Department of State Services and the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to ensure adequate security at the collation centres.
The statement alleged that ballot boxes had already been hijacked at some polling units by suspected thugs and urged the relevant authorities to arrest and prosecute those responsible.
The campaign organisation further appealed to local and international observers monitoring the election to pay close attention to developments during the collation process and speak up against any action capable of undermining the electoral process.
It also recalled President Bola Tinubu’s reported directive that the Osun election should be credible, describing the exercise as an important test ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The campaign council urged INEC and security agencies to ensure that the outcome of the election reflected the wishes of the people of Osun State.
