Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has charged members of the National Youth Service Corps to use their service year to make meaningful contributions to their host communities and support development across the state.
Aiyedatiwa gave the charge on Wednesday in an address delivered by the NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs Kuburat Omowumi Bakare, at the closing ceremony of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II orientation course held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Ikare-Akoko.
The governor urged the corps members to approach their Places of Primary Assignment with dedication, integrity and professionalism, stressing that their responsibilities should go beyond merely fulfilling the requirements of the NYSC programme.
He particularly encouraged them to take their Community Development Service projects seriously by identifying challenges in their host communities and working with residents and relevant stakeholders to provide practical solutions.
Aiyedatiwa also urged the corps members to respect the customs and traditions of their host communities, maintain cordial relationships with residents and remain neutral in local political and traditional affairs.
The governor cautioned them against misconduct and indiscipline, urging the corps members to uphold integrity, excellence and patriotism as ambassadors of their families, institutions, the NYSC and Nigeria.
He further charged them to remain security-conscious throughout their service year, advising them to avoid risky situations and promptly report suspicious activities to relevant authorities. He assured them that the state government would continue working with the NYSC, security agencies, traditional rulers and community leaders to safeguard corps members.
“Your service year should also be a period of preparation for life after NYSC. I therefore encourage you to take full advantage of the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme. Develop practical skills, strengthen your competence and explore opportunities that can make you self-reliant and productive,” Aiyedatiwa said, declaring the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II orientation course officially closed on behalf of the government and people of Ondo State.
