A suspected kidnapper, Usman Ibrahim, has been arraigned before an Akure Magistrate's Court in Ondo State over allegations of plotting to abduct farmers and attacking operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun Corps.
Ibrahim was brought before Magistrate Damilola Sekoni on a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy to kidnap and other offences related to kidnapping. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Olusegun Akeredolu, told the court that the alleged offences were committed around 6 a.m. on July 26, 2026, in the Igushi Forest, Imafon, Akure North Local Government Area.
According to the prosecution, the defendant and other suspects still at large allegedly conspired to abduct farmers working in the area before Amotekun operatives intervened.
Akeredolu further alleged that Ibrahim opened fire on the security operatives while attempting to flee with the victims, an action that prompted his arrest.
He said the alleged offences contravened Sections 4 and 8 of the Ondo State Anti-Kidnapping and Anti-Abduction Law, 2010, and urged the court to remand the defendant pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Defence counsel, Kizito T. Duru, sought time to respond to the prosecution's application for remand.
Magistrate Sekoni adjourned the matter until August 17, 2026, for hearing of the remand request.
