Suspected bandits have killed the All Progressives Congress chairman of Rantan Ward in Bebeji Local Government Area of Kano State, Alhaji Garba Buba, and another resident, Sulaiman Zunduma, during a night attack on the community.
The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday night when the gunmen stormed Rantan and opened fire on residents, throwing the community into panic.
Buba was said to have sustained gunshot injuries during the attack and was rushed to a hospital for treatment but reportedly died from his wounds.
A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the attackers also shot another resident, identified as Alhaji Sa’adu, during the assault.
“Last night, Sunday, suspected kidnappers attacked our town, Rantan. During the attack, they shot Alhaji Garba Buba, the APC chairman of Rantan Ward, who later died in hospital from the injuries sustained,” the resident said.
He added, “They also shot Alhaji Sa’adu and killed another person, Sulaiman Zunduma.”
A family member, Hafsat Garba Rantan, confirmed Buba’s death, identifying the deceased politician as her paternal uncle.
The latest attack came only hours after gunmen invaded Chiromawa community in Garun Malam Local Government Area, where three people were reportedly killed and the Sarkin Noman Jihar Kano, Alhaji Yusuf Nadabo Chiromawa, was abducted.
The wave of attacks has heightened anxiety in communities across parts of Kano North, particularly areas sharing borders with Katsina and Zamfara states, which have recently experienced repeated incursions by suspected bandits.
