The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Medical Sciences, Ondo (UNIMEDO), has declared a total, comprehensive and indefinite strike over the non-implementation of the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU Agreement and the payment of accrued arrears.
The union said the industrial action took effect on August 27, following the expiration of a 14-day ultimatum issued to the university management and the Ondo State Government.
The decision was contained in a communique issued at the end of the union’s congress held on Thursday.
The communique was jointly signed by the Chairman of ASUU-UNIMEDO, Comrade Abraham Oladebeye, and the Secretary, Comrade Adeniran Akinola.
According to the communique, the congress noted that the ultimatum expired without the implementation of the 2025 FGN-ASUU Agreement and the payment of accrued arrears dating back to January 1, 2026.
The union expressed dissatisfaction with what it described as the Ondo State Government’s failure to implement the agreement despite the expiration of the ultimatum.
It, therefore, directed all members to withdraw from statutory academic duties, including lectures, continuous assessments, examinations, seminars, students’ research supervision, industrial training supervision and fieldwork.
The directive also covers departmental, faculty, committee and Senate meetings, whether physical or virtual.
ASUU-UNIMEDO said the strike would remain in force until the full implementation of the agreement, payment of the accrued arrears and any subsequent directive from the union’s National Executive Council.
The union also mandated the Branch Executive Committee to activate the Branch Strike Coordinating Committee to monitor full compliance with the resolutions.
As of the time of filing this report, the Ondo State Government and the university management had yet to issue an official response to the union’s action.
