The Federal Road Safety Corps, Ondo State Sector Command, has decorated 176 personnel recently promoted in the state.
The decoration ceremony was held on Thursday in Akure, with the Sector Commander, Dr Samuel Ibitoye, presenting the new ranks to 50 senior officers and 126 marshals promoted in the latest exercise.
Ibitoye urged the beneficiaries to regard their promotions as an increased responsibility to the public rather than merely an advancement in rank, charging them to demonstrate greater diligence and commitment in their duties.
He said the promotion was aimed at strengthening the corps’ functionality, resilience and service delivery, particularly in its efforts to improve road safety and protect the lives of motorists and other road users.
Giving a breakdown of the senior officers promoted, the sector commander said five officers rose from Chief Route Commander to Assistant Corps Commander, while seven advanced from Superintendent Route Commander to Chief Route Commander.
He added that seven Route Commanders were promoted to Superintendent Route Commanders, 18 Deputy Route Commanders moved to Route Commander, while 13 Assistant Route Commanders advanced to Deputy Route Commander.
According to him, the 126 marshals promoted comprised one Assistant Chief Inspector to Deputy Chief Inspector; five Principal Marshal Inspectors to Assistant Chief Inspectors; five Senior Marshal Inspectors to Principal Marshal Inspectors; eight Marshal Inspector I to Senior Marshal Inspector; 21 Marshal Inspector II to Marshal Inspector I; and 14 Marshal Inspector III to Marshal Inspector II.
Others, he said, included 14 Deputy Chief Road Marshal Assistants promoted to Chief Road Marshal Assistants; seven Senior Road Marshal Assistants to Deputy Road Marshal Assistants; 48 Road Marshal Assistants I to Senior Road Marshal Assistants; and three Road Marshal Assistants II to Road Marshal Assistants I.
Ibitoye charged all personnel to intensify their efforts in road safety advocacy, enforcement, engineering audits and collaboration with the public to reduce road traffic crashes, saying, “To whom much is given, much is expected.”
He also urged personnel who were not promoted in the latest exercise to improve their performance and dedication, stressing that the ultimate objective was to ensure that every member of the corps contributed effectively to reducing highway accidents and improving operational efficiency.
A former FRSC Corps Commander, Mr Michael Adigun, advised the newly promoted personnel to sustain high standards of performance and diligence, noting that career advancement was dependent on hard work and constant vigilance while assisting motorists.
Speaking on behalf of the promoted officers, ACC Opeyemi Adigun thanked the corps for recognising their commitment and hard work, pledging renewed allegiance and greater dedication to the service of humanity and the nation.
