The Academic Staff Union of Universities at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, has suspended its industrial action following the payment of outstanding salary arrears owed to its members.
The decision came less than 24 hours after workers of the Ondo State-owned institution began receiving their unpaid salaries through the ₦1.1 billion intervention fund recently approved by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
Confirming the development in a telephone interview on Tuesday, the Chairman of the AAUA chapter of ASUU, Prof. Bolu Oshodi, said the union resolved to end the strike after its primary demand was fulfilled.
He disclosed that lecturers received their outstanding salaries for May and June, paving the way for the resumption of academic activities at the university.
"The strike has been suspended because our members have now been paid the outstanding salaries for May and June. As a union, we always suspend industrial action once the issues that prompted it are addressed," Oshodi said.
The union leader, however, urged the Ondo State Government to sustain timely funding of the institution to forestall future industrial disputes and ensure uninterrupted academic activities.
