Ondo State Governor, Dr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has officially presented the instrument and staff of office to the new Olusupare of Supare-Akoko, Oba Fasusi Richard Adewale, with a charge to uphold peace and foster development in the community.
Represented by his deputy, Dr Olaide Adelami, at the ceremony, the governor said the monarch's appointment was the outcome of a transparent process conducted in line with established laws and customs.
He commended the kingmakers, community leaders and other stakeholders for ensuring a smooth selection process, describing the ascension of the new monarch as a call to selfless service.
Aiyedatiwa urged Oba Fasusi to discharge his responsibilities with wisdom, fairness and restraint, stressing that traditional rulers occupy strategic positions in promoting peace and stability within their domains.
He also appealed to other aspirants for the royal stool to put the contest behind them and support the new monarch, saying unity remained essential to the progress of Supare-Akoko.
The governor reaffirmed his administration's commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state, noting that substantial investments had been made to strengthen security agencies in tackling criminal activities.
He further encouraged traditional rulers to continue supporting government efforts in maintaining security, while assuring residents that his administration would not condone acts capable of causing communal or boundary disputes.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Amidu Takuro, said the government approved the appointment after confirming that every stage of the selection process complied with the relevant legal provisions.
Takuro added that the ministry would continue to ensure that vacant traditional stools across the state were filled through lawful and transparent procedures.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Akoko South-West Local Government described the occasion as a significant milestone in the history of Supare-Akoko, expressing appreciation to Governor Aiyedatiwa for preserving the integrity of the state's traditional institutions.
He lauded the contributions of the kingmakers, elders and other stakeholders to the successful completion of the process and urged residents at home and abroad to work with the new monarch in advancing the community's development.
In his remarks, Oba Fasusi expressed gratitude to the state government for formally recognising his emergence as the Olusupare, describing the presentation of the staff of office as the beginning of a new era for the kingdom.
The monarch thanked Governor Aiyedatiwa and the State Executive Council for concluding the process after years of vacancy and acknowledged the governor's appointment of several indigenes of Supare into key positions in the state government.
Oba Fasusi pledged to lead with humility, justice and inclusiveness, promising to preserve the kingdom's traditions while working with all stakeholders to strengthen peace, unity and socio-economic development in Supare-Akoko.
