The National Association of Nigerian Students, Joint Campus Committee, Ondo State, has announced plans for a statewide shutdown from Tuesday, August 18, 2026, in protest against the ongoing industrial dispute affecting state-owned universities in the state.
The NANS-JCC Ondo Chairman, Adekanye Mayomi Adeboye, disclosed this in a statement circulated on Sunday, calling on students to join what the association described as a peaceful protest to press for an end to the lingering strike.
The action follows the indefinite strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Adekunle Ajasin University chapter, on August 11, over issues surrounding the implementation of the 2025 agreement between the Federal Government and ASUU.
NANS-JCC said the industrial dispute had also affected other state-owned universities, raising concerns about the disruption of academic activities and its impact on students.
According to the association, the statewide shutdown would remain in force until the Ondo State Government addresses the issues responsible for the prolonged industrial action.
It urged students of AAUA, Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology and the University of Medical Sciences to participate in the planned protest on Tuesday.
The association said the protest would be peaceful, adding that the venue would be communicated to students later.
The planned action comes amid renewed concerns over repeated disruptions to academic activities in Ondo State-owned universities, with students urging the government and university authorities to find a lasting solution to the dispute.
