President Bola Tinubu has ordered the immediate arrest of Prince George Buchi Nwabueze following the discovery of an alleged fake government agency operating from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
As reported by Daily Trust, the development was disclosed on Friday by the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, Dr Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, after a meeting with President Tinubu at the State House.
Aliyu said the ICPC uncovered the purported National Brands Development and Made-in-Nigeria Special Project Office in the course of its investigation into the activities of the alleged fake Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council operated by one Adeyemi Matthew.
According to him, the investigation revealed that office accommodation had been unlawfully allocated to the purported agency within the premises of the Office of the SGF.
The ICPC chairman said the discovery formed part of the commission’s wider probe into individuals and groups allegedly using unauthorised government identities and offices to carry out activities.
Following the briefing, Tinubu directed security authorities to arrest Nwabueze over his alleged connection with the purported agency, while investigations continue.
The President also ordered the immediate suspension of three Permanent Secretaries identified as M.S. Danjuma, Engineer Nadungu Gagare and Richard P. Pheelangwah in connection with the matter.
The latest development comes as the ICPC intensifies its investigation into the alleged proliferation of unauthorised government bodies and the misuse of government offices and identities.
