Canada invites 1,000 skilled workers for permanent residence

Canada has invited 1,000 skilled foreign workers to apply for permanent residence through its Express Entry immigration system.

The invitations were issued on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, under the Canadian Experience Class, according to the latest ministerial instructions released by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.

Applicants who received invitations were required to have a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System score of 523. The department said the candidates were selected from the highest-ranked eligible profiles in the draw.

“Number of invitations issued: 1,000,” the immigration authority stated in its ministerial instructions.

The draw was conducted at 10:13:44 UTC on August 18, with a tie-breaking provision set for August 17, 2026, at 22:09:00 UTC. The rule applies where candidates have the same CRS score, with preference given based on the date and time their Express Entry profiles were submitted.

The Canadian Experience Class is one of three federal economic immigration programmes administered through Express Entry. The system ranks candidates based on factors including age, education, language proficiency and work experience.

To qualify under the Canadian Experience Class, applicants generally need at least one year of eligible skilled work experience in Canada within the preceding three years, alongside the required language proficiency. Applicants are also expected to plan to live outside Quebec.

The latest draw was smaller and more competitive than an earlier CEC round conducted on August 5, when Canada issued 3,000 invitations with a CRS cut-off of 516. By mid-August, IRCC had issued more than 113,000 invitations through the Express Entry system in 2026.
