A man, Abdullahi, has asked a Grade A Customary Court sitting at Mapo in Ibadan, Oyo State, to dissolve his marriage, accusing his wife of persistent disobedience, poor hygiene and abandoning household responsibilities.
The plaintiff told the court that his wife, Adesola, repeatedly ignored his instructions, neglected domestic chores and often left their home without informing him, leaving the marriage in constant turmoil.
According to Abdullahi, the couple, who have no children, began living together in 2017 after both families approved their union, adding that he did not pay a bride price.
He alleged that every attempt to correct his wife ended in arguments, describing her as quarrelsome and unwilling to change her behaviour.
The plaintiff further claimed that despite their inability to have children, his wife refused to pray with him and instead preferred leaving the house whenever she wished and returning at her convenience.
"Our home is always dirty and untidy because she abandons household chores. I no longer enjoy the marriage and have endured enough," he told the court, urging it to dissolve the union.
Abdullahi also alleged that his wife's conduct had made peaceful coexistence impossible, insisting that she lacked the qualities expected of a responsible spouse.
The defendant, however, was absent from the court proceedings despite reportedly being served with hearing notices.
After listening to the plaintiff's testimony, the President of the Grade A Customary Court, Mrs S.M. Akintayo, adjourned the matter for judgment.
