Delta State Council, has elected new leaders to steer the affairs of the association for the next three years, following the successful conduct of its 2026 Annual General Meeting.
The AGM, held at the Oshimili South Local Government Council Hall, Asaba, brought together delegates from Scout associations across the 17 local government areas of the state, alongside other stakeholders.
The election marked a fresh attempt to reposition the association after years of internal challenges that prevented it from holding its statutory general meeting since 2017.
Speaking at the event, the Delta State Commissioner for Youth Development, Brave Enodeh, urged the Scouts to embrace technology and raise their operations to international standards.
Enodeh, represented by the Director of Youth Mobilisation and Leadership in the ministry, Mrs Peace Okonye, said the changing global environment required the association to move beyond operating as a local organisation.
He said, “We are in a digital age, and I will not expect the Scout body to remain a localised association. Whatever it takes for you to prepare yourself and be qualified to rise to the level of your international colleagues, please do it.”
The Chairman of the caretaker committee, Delta State Scout Council, Dr Hope George, described the conduct of the AGM as a major achievement, noting that the meeting had paved the way for a constitutionally recognised leadership.
George said the newly elected officers would serve for three years, adding that a management committee comprising respected senior citizens had also been constituted to provide guidance and support to the executive.
Olorogun Jaro Egbo was elected Chairman of the Management Committee, with Hon. Justice A.O. Akpovi, Chief Lizzy Charzor, Hon. Felix Eremedafe, Chief Vincent Okudolor, Dcn. Precious Young, Surveyor Dr Alexander Eboka, Chief Uba Awaza and Ogaga Aghogho as members.
Scouter Christopher Aniemeke emerged as Honorary Secretary, while Scouter Bright Araino was elected Honorary Treasurer and Scouter Patrick Ashiedu, Assistant Secretary. Hon. Landlord-Lawrence Agbagoro was also recommended to the Chief Commissioner of the Scout Association of Nigeria for appointment as the State Commissioner.
In a goodwill message, the Chairman of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools, Delta State, Dcn. Precious Young, represented by Pastor Phrederick Okoka, commended the Scouts for promoting discipline, leadership, service and responsible citizenship among young people.
