A technical employee of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company has sustained injuries after suffering an electric shock while carrying out maintenance work on an 11kV electricity feeder in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital.
The incident was confirmed by the company's Head of Branding and Corporate Communications, Evelyn Gbiwen, in a statement issued on Tuesday, saying the accident occurred around 6:20 p.m. on Saturday at the Ado-Poly Satellite Campus area.
According to the statement, the victim, identified as Bamidele Akinyemi, was carrying out an operational assignment on the 11kV Basiri Feeder after scheduled maintenance when he was electrocuted.
The company said the linesman sustained burns on one of his arms and other parts of his body during the incident.
It added that the injured worker was immediately taken to the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado-Ekiti, where he is receiving medical attention.
Gbiwen disclosed that Akinyemi's condition had stabilised and that he was responding positively to treatment.
She said, "BEDC Electricity Plc remains committed to the safety and well-being of its employees and is providing the necessary support to the injured staff member during this period."
The spokesperson also revealed that the electricity distribution company had commenced an investigation to determine the cause of the incident, assuring that appropriate steps would be taken after the outcome of the probe.
