Ex-convict stabs friend to death after argument, escapes

A man recently released from prison has allegedly killed his colleague, identified as Dada, during a confrontation in Akute, Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The incident, which reportedly occurred in the Akute bridge area, caused panic among residents and traders, with some shop owners said to have shut their businesses and left the vicinity.

Sources told PUNCH Metro that the confrontation began with an argument between the two men before it escalated into a physical fight. Dada was reportedly the first to inflict an injury, stabbing the suspect in the hand.

An eyewitness, Gabriel, said people at the scene advised Dada to leave after the initial confrontation, while the suspect also reportedly withdrew from the area.

According to Gabriel, the suspect later returned armed and allegedly attacked Dada, stabbing him in the neck.

Efforts by bystanders to stop the bleeding reportedly failed, as the victim died while being taken to a hospital.

Another witness, Samuel, said Dada’s remains were later left by the roadside after those transporting him realised he had died.

The police were subsequently alerted and officers reportedly moved into the area.

A police source, who spoke anonymously because he was not authorised to comment publicly, described the area beneath the Akute bridge as a known hideout for suspected criminals. The source said the location had been linked to reports of phone theft and other criminal activities, adding that the fleeing suspect remained the target of an ongoing search.

The Ogun State Police Command confirmed the incident, with the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Opeyemi Oluborode, saying efforts had been intensified to locate and arrest the suspect.

He added that the command was fully aware of the case and was pursuing the fleeing suspect.
