A former Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association in Ondo State, Dr. Omosehin Adeyemi-Osowe, has urged the newly elected state chairman of the association, Dr. Roland Bola Arohunmolase, to prioritise the welfare and professional development of medical doctors during his tenure.
Adeyemi-Osowe gave the charge in a congratulatory message issued on Sunday following Arohunmolase's emergence as the new chairman of the association, describing his election as a reflection of the confidence reposed in him by members.
The former NMA chairman said Arohunmolase's victory was well deserved, citing his leadership qualities, commitment to the medical profession and years of service to the association.
"Your resounding victory is a testament to the confidence and trust reposed in you by your colleagues. It is a recognition of your visionary leadership, strategic capacity, commitment to teamwork and your outstanding reputation as a medical practitioner," he said.
Adeyemi-Osowe recalled working with the new chairman during his tenure as Assistant Secretary of the association between 2016 and 2018, describing him as a committed leader with the capacity to reposition the association.
"I have no doubt that you possess the competence, character and experience required to lead the association to greater heights," he stated.
He charged the new leadership to make the welfare and wellbeing of doctors in the state a top priority while strengthening engagement with government and other critical stakeholders to improve the healthcare sector.
"I urge you to make the welfare, professional advancement and overall wellbeing of every doctor in Ondo State the defining priorities of your administration," Adeyemi-Osowe said.
"It is equally important to sustain constructive engagement with government and policymakers to ensure our healthcare institutions operate in line with global best practices."
According to him, improving working conditions, expanding healthcare infrastructure and promoting continuous professional development would strengthen the state's health sector and improve service delivery.
He also advised the new chairman to promote unity, inclusiveness and ethical leadership within the association.
"I encourage you to consolidate the unity of the association, inspire confidence among members, uphold the highest ethical standards and provide courageous leadership that will protect the dignity of the medical profession," he added.
Adeyemi-Osowe equally commended the immediate past chairman of the association, Dr. Abel Olumuyiwa Alonge, for what he described as his remarkable contributions to the growth of the NMA during his tenure.
"I congratulate Dr. Abel Olumuyiwa Alonge on his sterling achievements and successful transition to a new leadership. His tenure was marked by exceptional leadership, sound administration and dedicated service to the association," he said.
He expressed optimism that the new executive would build on existing achievements and leave behind a legacy of impactful reforms in the association.
