Traders at the Sabo Market in Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State, were thrown into panic on Sunday after another fire incident was recorded at the market.
The fire reportedly started at a shop selling drinks in the evening, with the incident occurring despite rainfall in the community.
The latest outbreak has renewed fears among traders, coming only a few weeks after a separate fire incident caused extensive damage to shops and goods estimated at millions of naira in the same market.
The source of the Sunday fire had yet to be established as of the time of filing this report.
Witnesses said the development drew traders, residents and other people in the vicinity to the affected section of the market as efforts were made to prevent the flames from reaching adjoining shops.
Firefighters subsequently arrived at the scene and succeeded in putting out the fire before it could spread further.
Although the extent of the damage was yet to be ascertained, the incident has intensified concerns about the repeated occurrence of fires at the market.
Some traders and residents appealed to the relevant authorities to strengthen fire prevention measures, improve emergency preparedness and ensure that adequate safety facilities are provided to protect lives and businesses.
