A faulty generator caused a fire at a filling station in Rano Local Government Area of Kano State, but prompt intervention by firefighters prevented the incident from escalating.
The fire broke out at Tukur Muhd Nig. Limited, situated on Saya Saya Road in Rano, at about 9:20pm on Tuesday.
The Kano State Fire Service confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Wednesday by its Public Relations Officer, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi.
According to the agency, its emergency team at the Rano Fire Station was alerted by the manager of the filling station, Abubakar Umar, shortly after the fire started.
Firefighters who arrived at the scene found that the blaze had originated from a Mikano generator within the premises and had spread to the rear tyres of a Canter truck.
The fire service said its personnel quickly brought the situation under control, preventing the flames from reaching other parts of the filling station.
No death or injury was recorded in the incident, while the agency identified the generator malfunction as the cause of the fire.
The Director of the Kano State Fire Service, Sani Anas, urged residents and business operators to remain vigilant and ensure that appropriate fire prevention measures, including functional extinguishers, were maintained at their premises.
