Operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun Corps, have rescued two Fulani herders abducted by suspected kidnappers and recovered their cattle during a coordinated operation along the Ondo-Edo boundary.
The victims, identified as Abubakar Umaru and Adulahi Umaru, were reportedly grazing cattle in the Owo area when armed men attacked them and whisked them into a forest.
Speaking on the operation, the Commander of the Amotekun Corps, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, said the rescue mission was launched after the victims' parents alerted the agency that the two herders had failed to return home with their livestock.
According to him, operatives first traced and recovered the missing cattle before extending the search into the Abuja Forest located along the Ondo-Edo border after confirming that the herders had been kidnapped.
Adeleye said sustained pressure mounted by the security team forced the kidnappers to abandon their hideout and flee, paving the way for the safe rescue of the victims.
He described the operation as one of the remarkable rescue missions carried out by the corps, noting that credible intelligence provided by residents played a vital role in its success.
“The report was unusual because, out of the many rescue operations we have conducted, this involved two Fulani herders who were abducted while tending their cattle. Once the report got to us, we immediately swung into action,” he said.
The Amotekun commander reiterated that the agency remained committed to protecting every resident of the state without ethnic or religious bias.
“A criminal remains a criminal irrespective of whether the person is Yoruba, Hausa, Igbo or Fulani. We will continue to pursue anyone involved in criminal activities,” Adeleye added.
Narrating their ordeal, the rescued herders said the kidnappers forcefully marched them deep into the forest after seizing them from their cattle, expressing gratitude to the Amotekun operatives for securing their freedom.
