A housewife, Sadiya Bashir, has approached a Shari’a Court in Rigasa, Kaduna State, seeking an end to her marriage to Abdullahi Haruna.
Bashir told the court that her husband had failed to adequately provide food for her and their 10 children, while also making plans to take another wife.
She further alleged that Haruna intended to sell the family house, a development she said had heightened her concern about the future of herself and the children.
Responding to the allegations, Haruna admitted that he was planning to marry another woman but denied having any intention of disposing of the family property.
The husband, according to the News Agency of Nigeria, said he had continued to cater for his family according to his financial capacity.
Haruna also told the court that there had been peace in the marriage until his wife became aware of his intention to marry another woman.
He maintained that the development was responsible for the current disagreement between them.
The presiding judge, Malam Mukhtar Mu’azu, adjourned the matter and directed both parties to return with their witnesses on the next date of hearing.
