A 55-year-old man, Idowu Alade, who was abducted in Aroge Camp, Idoani, in the Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State, has escaped from his captors, leading to the arrest of two suspected members of the kidnapping gang.
The Ondo State Police Command disclosed this in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, on Monday, saying the victim was abducted at about 6pm on August 21, 2026, after leaving home to buy a recharge card.
According to the command, Alade’s failure to return home prompted residents to launch a search the following morning. Police operatives, working alongside personnel of the Amotekun Corps, Ose Bravers Vigilante Group and local hunters, subsequently intensified efforts to locate him.
The victim reportedly made a daring escape from the kidnappers’ hideout at about 4am on August 23 while his captors were asleep. He later emerged through the Ifira area, where security operatives, acting on intelligence, located and rescued him.
The police said the victim, who sustained injuries during the ordeal, was taken for medical attention before assisting investigators with information about his abductors.
Following the rescue, security operatives placed the area on red alert. This led to the arrest of two suspects, Usman Shaibu, 25, and Sanni Musa, 27, by a patrol team from the Isua Division at about 2:15pm the same day.
“Upon regaining sufficient strength, the victim positively identified the two suspects as those who allegedly abducted him,” the police said, adding that his mobile phone was also recovered from the suspects.
The command said the suspects allegedly confessed to their involvement and provided information about other members of the criminal network, including an alleged accomplice believed to be operating from Auchi.
The Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, CP Felix Ohagwu, directed that the suspects and case file be transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping Squad for discreet investigation and efforts to arrest other members of the gang.
Ohagwu commended the security agencies and local groups involved in the operation, urging residents to continue providing credible information to security authorities. He assured the public that the command would sustain its efforts to tackle kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state.
