The Ondo State Police Command has apprehended a suspected fake travel agent accused of defrauding over 90 visa applicants of more than ₦42 million through a fraudulent overseas travel scheme.
The suspect, identified as 33-year-old Adejoke Ayomide of Abeokuta, Ogun State, was arrested after an investigation launched following a petition filed by Barrister Akindayomi Oluwa Tobi and Associates on behalf of the victims.
Police spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the suspect allegedly posed as a travel consultant and promised to secure visas to Spain, Portugal and France, collecting a total of ₦42,326,000 from intending travellers between October 2024 and April 2026.
"Investigations revealed that the suspect received payments from more than 93 prospective travellers through her Opay account for visa processing. After obtaining the money, she allegedly cut off communication with the victims," the statement said.
The police explained that detectives deployed intelligence and forensic investigative tools to trace the suspect before she was arrested on August 5, 2026, during a coordinated operation.
"The suspect is in custody and has volunteered useful information to investigators. Efforts are ongoing to identify other persons connected with the alleged fraud and establish whether more victims were affected. She will be prosecuted after investigations are concluded," the statement added.
The Commissioner of Police, Felix Ohagwu, praised the investigative team for the breakthrough and reiterated the Command's resolve to clamp down on financial crimes. He also urged Nigerians to thoroughly verify the authenticity of travel agencies before making payments for visa or relocation services.
