A middle-aged man, Andrawus James, has allegedly admitted attempting to hand over his 18-year-old niece to a prospective buyer for N7m in Adamawa State.
James, who resides in Bai village, Yadim District, Fufure Local Government Area, reportedly lured the teenager with a false promise of securing employment for her in Abuja.
He was arraigned before Chief Magistrate Court 2, Yola, where the prosecution alleged that he had negotiated with a man identified as Mohamed Buba over the sale of the girl.
The prosecution officer, ASP Ezra Bulus, tendered a First Information Report before the court, stating that Buba reported the matter at the Divisional Police Headquarters in Ganye on August 16, 2026.
According to the report, James allegedly told Buba that he wanted to make money and had decided to sell his niece. The two men were said to have subsequently agreed on the price and arrangements for handing her over.
James allegedly contacted the girl, who lives with her parents in Damare Ward, Yola South Local Government Area, and told her that he had found her a job in Abuja. He reportedly instructed her to keep the information from her parents.
However, instead of taking the teenager to Abuja, James allegedly conveyed her to Ganye, where he intended to hand her over to another person for onward movement to the Federal Capital Territory.
The plan reportedly collapsed after Buba alerted security personnel, who arrested James shortly after he arrived in Ganye with the girl.
Following his arraignment, the court, presided over by Chief Magistrate Dorcas Marvin, ordered that James be remanded in a correctional facility pending legal advice from the state Department of Prosecution.
The matter was subsequently adjourned for further proceedings.
