Traders in Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State, have been left counting their losses after a fire ravaged parts of the Mimiko Market on Wednesday night.
The fire reportedly started at about 10pm, sending traders and residents into panic as the flames spread across sections of the market.
Several shops and business outlets were reportedly affected, while merchandise, equipment and other valuables were destroyed in the incident.
Some traders and residents were said to have mobilised quickly to prevent the flames from reaching adjoining shops and structures.
The development attracted a crowd to the market, as residents watched and joined efforts to bring the situation under control.
As of the time of filing this report, the cause of the fire had not been established by the relevant authorities.
Although an official assessment of the damage was still awaited, traders said the value of goods and property lost in the inferno could run into millions of naira.
The latest incident has heightened concerns among traders over fire safety in the market, with calls for urgent measures to prevent a recurrence and protect businesses from further losses.
