A Kano man, Nura Usman, and his mother, Izzatu Aminu, have been arraigned before a Magistrate’s Court in Nomansland over an alleged plot to kill Nura’s father.
The duo are facing charges of conspiracy and attempted murder over the alleged plan to eliminate Alhaji Usman Shanono at Dantsinke Quarters, Kano.
The prosecution alleged that the defendants engaged a suspected assassin and paid him N500,000 to carry out the killing.
However, the alleged hitman reportedly informed Shanono about the plan instead of executing it, prompting the victim and the assassin to devise a strategy to expose the alleged plot.
According to the report, Shanono staged his death, while the assassin collected his wristwatch and other personal belongings as supposed evidence that the operation had been completed.
The suspects were said to have believed the claim and allegedly informed relatives that Shanono had been killed, leading mourners and sympathisers to gather.
The alleged plot was exposed when Shanono later appeared with security operatives, revealing that the reported killing had been deliberately staged.
The case, presided over by Magistrate Sakina Amina Yusuf, was adjourned until September 7, 2026, for further hearing.
