Ojudu: APC membership won’t stop me from questioning government

Babafemi Ojudu

Former Ekiti Central Senator, Babafemi Ojudu, has said his membership of the All Progressives Congress will not prevent him from speaking out when government projects fail to meet public expectations.

Ojudu made the position known in a Facebook post sighted by Veracity News on Wednesday, following reactions to his earlier appeal for government intervention over the stalled Akure-Ado-Ekiti road project.

The former senator said he had received commendation from some APC members after praising the Federal Government’s work on the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, but was subjected to criticism when he raised concerns about the condition of the Akure-Ado-Ekiti road.

He questioned the notion that party loyalty should require members to support every government action without scrutiny, describing such an approach as harmful to responsible citizenship.

Ojudu said, “I can commend the government when it performs well and question it when something appears to have gone wrong. There is no contradiction in that. It is called citizenship.”

He also rejected the description of his intervention as an attack on the Federal Government, arguing that drawing attention to a publicly funded project was part of his civic responsibility and should not be reduced to partisan politics.

According to him, the poor state or abandonment of roads affects all Nigerians through accidents, vehicle damage, lost working hours and economic losses, irrespective of their political affiliations. He added that responsibility for stalled projects could involve contractors, officials, funding delays or inadequate supervision.

Ojudu therefore demanded answers on the Akure-Ado-Ekiti project, asking what led to its stoppage, who should be held accountable, how much public money had been released and spent, and what steps were being taken to ensure its completion.
