The Ondo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has commenced moves to reconcile aggrieved members following the conclusion of the party's National Assembly primary elections ahead of the 2027 general elections.
As part of the peace initiative, members of the party's State Working Committee on Tuesday paid a visit to former Deputy Governor, Otunba Omolade Oluwateru, seeking his support in uniting members and strengthening the party ahead of the polls.
The delegation, led by the state APC Chairman, Babatunde Kolawole, urged Oluwateru to deploy his political influence and experience to foster harmony among party faithful dissatisfied with the outcome of the primaries.
Kolawole described the former deputy governor as a respected party leader whose contributions remained crucial to the APC's stability and electoral success in the state.
He said the leadership recognised that disagreements often followed party primaries, noting that the reconciliation effort was aimed at healing divisions and ensuring members worked together ahead of the 2027 elections.
"We appreciate your continued support for the party and the government. We believe your experience is needed now more than ever, especially in reaching out to members who may feel disappointed by the outcome of the primaries," Kolawole said.
Responding, Oluwateru praised the party leadership for setting up a reconciliation process, describing the move as timely and necessary to preserve unity within the APC.
The former deputy governor, who served under the late Governor Olusegun Agagu, said his decision to join the APC was motivated by his desire to contribute to the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
He stressed that party members must put aside their grievances and rally behind Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, whom he described as the recognised leader of the APC in Ondo State.
"I remain loyal to the party and its leadership. We must close ranks, reconcile our differences and move forward together. I am fully committed to supporting every effort aimed at strengthening the party," Oluwateru said.
He also pledged to assist the reconciliation committee in engaging dissatisfied members, expressing confidence that unity within the APC would enhance its chances in the 2027 general elections.
