The All Progressives Congress in Ondo State has declared that members who defect from the party to contest the 2027 National Assembly elections under other political parties will no longer be regarded as APC members.
The position was contained in a statement issued by the Secretary of the party’s Reconciliation Committee, Dele Olanubi, who said the committee would not tolerate acts capable of undermining the party’s candidates or weakening its structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The committee chairman, Biyi Poroye, said party loyalty and discipline remained central to the reconciliation process, stressing that members were expected to support candidates contesting under the APC platform.
Olanubi said any APC member who secured a ticket from another political party to contest against the ruling party had, by that action, ended his or her relationship with the APC.
He warned members against attending meetings or engaging in political consultations with individuals who had left the APC to contest elections on rival platforms, saying such actions could attract disciplinary measures, including the loss of party privileges.
The committee also maintained that members could not claim to support President Bola Tinubu while simultaneously working against APC candidates at other levels of government.
According to the statement, the committee recently engaged Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa as part of its reconciliation efforts. The governor was quoted as reaffirming his loyalty to the progressive political platform, saying he had remained with the political family that evolved from the Action Congress of Nigeria into the APC.
The committee appealed to party members to remain committed to the APC, saying reconciliation efforts were ongoing to unite members and position the party for the 2027 elections. It warned that anti-party activities would attract sanctions, while urging members to place the collective interest of the party above individual political ambitions.
