Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have arrested a 32-year-old man with a locally made cut-to-size pistol and four live cartridges during a stop-and-search operation in Owo, Ondo State.
The suspect, identified as Ogunmola Oluwasola ‘M’, was intercepted by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad at about 5am on Friday, August 7, 2026, along the Owo-Ute Road.
According to the police, the suspect, who resides on Idasen Street, Owo, was subjected to a search during a routine security patrol, leading to the discovery of the firearm and ammunition in his possession.
The suspect was subsequently taken into custody, while the recovered weapon and ammunition were secured as exhibits.
The police said detectives had commenced investigation to determine the source of the firearm, the suspect’s intended use of the weapon and whether he had links to robbery, kidnapping or other criminal activities in Owo and neighbouring communities.
The state Commissioner of Police, Felix Ohagwu, commended the operatives for their vigilance and proactive approach to policing.
Ohagwu said the command would sustain intelligence-led patrols, stop-and-search operations and other security measures, particularly along major highways and areas identified as crime-prone.
He warned individuals involved in the illegal possession or trafficking of firearms that the police and other security agencies would continue to pursue them.
The command said the suspect remained in custody as investigation continued, adding that anyone found culpable would be prosecuted.
It also urged residents to continue providing useful information to security agencies, assuring the public of sustained efforts to protect lives and property across the state.
