A large crowd of Peoples Democratic Party supporters and residents on Wednesday thronged the streets of Ogun Central Senatorial District as the party commenced its campaign for the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections.
The campaign train moved through the three federal constituencies in the district, beginning from Ifo/Ewekoro, where residents lined the streets and adjoining buildings to welcome the party’s governorship candidate, Ladi Adebutu; his deputy, Yemi Sowunmi-Kolapo; the senatorial candidate, Senator Iyabo Obasanjo, and other party leaders at Agbado Station.
The campaign also received a warm reception in Abeokuta North Federal Constituency, where the party’s House of Representatives candidate, Dele Olaleye, is seeking election. Supporters had gathered at NTA Junction, Totoro, from about 10am, singing solidarity songs and cheering the campaign team.
Similar scenes were recorded in Abeokuta South Federal Constituency, with supporters trooping out to welcome the campaign train of the PDP. The crowd later accompanied the convoy to the Ake Pavilion, venue of the Ogun Central campaign rally.
Addressing supporters at the rally, Adebutu urged voters to support Obasanjo, describing her as an experienced politician whose previous representation of the district produced tangible results.
He called on the people of Ogun Central to reject what he described as poor governance and vote for the PDP, urging supporters to protect their votes during the January 16, 2027 election.
Adebutu said, “Ogun Central must bid farewell to non-performance and vote for liberation. Come out en masse, vote for the PDP, stand by your votes and resist intimidation.”
Obasanjo, in her remarks, expressed confidence in her political record, saying residents across the district had continued to recall the interventions she made while previously representing them. She pledged to build on her past achievements and work towards improving the welfare of constituents.
The supporters, in their separate remarks, pledged their loyalty to the PDP candidates and promised to vote for the party in the forthcoming election, declaring, “We will vote and stand by our votes for PDP.”
