A yet-to-be-identified woman has been found dead on the premises of a church in the Obelewo area of Osogbo, Osun State, with her left wrist reportedly severed.
The discovery has prompted an investigation by the state police command, which is working to establish the identity of the deceased and determine the circumstances surrounding her death.
The Force Public Relations Officer, Ani Iniedu, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, saying detectives had visited the scene after the woman’s body was discovered.
According to Iniedu, preliminary findings indicated that the woman had been killed and that her left wrist was cut off and taken away by unidentified persons.
He said the motive for the killing and the reason the body was left at the church premises had yet to be established.
“The investigations revealed that the deceased was slaughtered and her left wrist severed and taken away by unknown persons,” the police spokesperson stated.
Iniedu added that investigators were making efforts to identify the victim and unravel the events that led to her death.
He further disclosed that the body had been moved to a hospital mortuary, where an autopsy would be conducted to aid the investigation.
The police spokesperson said the State Command’s Criminal Investigation Department had commenced a detailed probe into the incident.
