A Kano Magistrates’ Court has ordered the remand of a 25-year-old woman, Maimuna Idris, over the alleged severing of her boyfriend’s manhood.
Idris, who resides in Maigatari Local Government Area of Jigawa State, is facing charges bordering on attempted culpable homicide and causing grievous hurt.
The prosecution, led by H.A. Sani-Buhari, told the court that the incident occurred on July 27 at Badawa Quarters in Kano.
According to the prosecutor, the police received a complaint from the management of Durbar Hotel, Badawa, at about 12:50pm, alleging that Idris had attacked her boyfriend, identified as Ashiru Sani, with a knife.
Sani-Buhari alleged that the incident occurred earlier that day after Idris reportedly discovered that Sani was planning to marry another woman.
The prosecutor said the victim sustained severe injuries and was subsequently taken to the Abubakar Imam Urology Hospital in Kano for medical attention.
Idris pleaded guilty to the two charges brought against her.
The prosecutor said the alleged offences contravened Sections 229 and 248 of the Penal Code.
Magistrate Sadiya Usman ordered that the defendant be remanded in a correctional facility and adjourned the case until September 9 for further mention.
