Senator Victor Umeh has expressed confidence that the Nigeria Democratic Congress vice-presidential candidate, Rabi’u Kwankwaso, will emerge victorious in Kano State if the 2027 presidential election is conducted credibly.
Umeh, who represents Anambra Central Senatorial District, said Kwankwaso remained a formidable political force in Kano and could not be defeated in the state under a free and transparent electoral process.
The lawmaker stated this on Friday while speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, during a discussion on the NDC’s preparedness for the 2027 general elections.
Umeh said he was working closely with Kwankwaso and other leaders of the party, adding that the NDC was positioning itself to participate in the election with credible candidates.
“No matter the noise they make in Kano, nobody can beat Kwankwaso there once the election is credible, transparent, free, and fair. I can bet it,” he said.
The senator also cited the reception accorded the party’s Rivers State governorship candidate, Dumo Lulu-Briggs, during his first outing in Port Harcourt as evidence of growing public support for the opposition movement.
He said the large crowd that welcomed Lulu-Briggs in Port Harcourt demonstrated that Nigerians were increasingly paying attention to the party and its candidates.
Umeh further referred to the reception given to the NDC presidential candidate, Peter Obi, saying the massive turnout showed that there was a strong motivation among voters ahead of the 2027 elections.
“Those people following them in Port Harcourt last week are Nigerians that will vote. Why were they following our presidential candidate, Peter Obi, like Jesus was crossing, and people were marching around him? Something must be motivating and driving the voting population,” he said.
