ADC Reps candidate, Balarabe woos Akure voters, promises jobs, women empowerment

The African Democratic Congress candidate for the Akure South/Akure North Federal Constituency, Hon. Balarabe Abiodun Akinwumi, has promised to prioritise youth employment and women’s economic empowerment if elected to the House of Representatives in 2027.

Akinwumi made the commitment on Thursday while taking his campaign to Wards 7 and 10 in Akure South Local Government Area, where he canvassed support from residents and engaged community leaders, youths, women and party members.

The ADC candidate said his decision to seek the federal constituency’s mandate was informed by the need to provide a new form of representation focused on the welfare and economic wellbeing of constituents.

He expressed concern over what he described as a pattern of politicians making promises during election campaigns but failing to return to the communities after securing their mandates.

“I can understand the pains and frustrations of our people. Politicians usually come here, promise you, and never come back to fulfil their promises to you. I won’t come here to join the bandwagon. Just try me once. I will set a benchmark for quality representation,” Akinwumi said.

He added that his administration, if elected, would create opportunities for youths to become economically productive while supporting women and business owners to expand their activities and improve the welfare of their families.

“Our youths will be gainfully engaged, and our mothers and businesswomen adequately empowered in ways that will enable them to have a positive impact on their families and society at large. I will work for you and make you proud,” he stated.

Akinwumi also pledged to remain accessible to the people and maintain regular engagement with constituents beyond the election, urging residents to support the ADC and participate actively in grassroots mobilisation across their communities.

The campaign team was received by residents, community leaders, youths, women and party supporters in the wards, which include areas such as Odige, Odopetu, Oke Arata, Oshodi/Isolo and Araromi.

Those who accompanied Akinwumi included the ADC Chairman in Akure South, Abiodun Adeyemi; Director-General of the party’s campaign council in the local government, Ambassador Kunle Adeloye; House of Assembly candidates Aare Abiodun Oluwarotimi and Hon. Adeyemi Adesida; and the ADC Women Leader in Akure South, Olori Falaye, among other party leaders.
