The Ondo State Chairman of the Democratic Leadership Alliance, Oluwatosin Israel Ayeni, has resigned from his position, saying his decision was aimed at promoting unity and political balance within the party.
Ayeni announced his resignation in a letter dated Friday, September 18, 2026, addressed to the party’s National Chairman at its headquarters in Abuja.
The former chairman said he stepped down because his immediate constituency was next in line to produce the next governor of Ondo State, adding that it was appropriate for another capable person from a different senatorial district to take over the leadership of the party in the state.
According to him, the decision was taken in the overall interest of the party and to ensure balance in its leadership structure ahead of future political activities in the state.
Ayeni, who did not disclose the identity of his proposed successor, said the move would allow the party to continue its affairs under a new leader from another senatorial district.
He, however, said his resignation did not amount to a withdrawal from the party, stressing that he remained committed to the growth and success of the DLA.
He pledged to support the party’s programmes, candidates and leadership at all levels, while expressing his readiness to contribute to its activities in whatever capacity he might be called upon to serve.
Ayeni thanked the national leadership for giving him the opportunity to serve and for the confidence reposed in him, while wishing the party a successful and peaceful leadership transition in Ondo State.
