The Nigeria Customs Service has commenced the final screening of 3,852 candidates selected for its 2024/2025 recruitment exercise.
The exercise involves document verification, physical fitness checks and medical assessments as the shortlisted applicants undergo the final stages of the recruitment process.
The screening began on Monday at the Customs Training and Doctrine Command in Gwagwalada, Abuja, and is scheduled to run for two weeks, ending on September 19. Applicants are being processed in batches based on their states of origin and arranged alphabetically to reduce congestion.
Candidates shortlisted for the Assistant Superintendent of Customs II, Inspectorate and Customs Assistant cadres are participating in the exercise.
The NCS spokesperson, Abdullahi Maiwada, said the arrangement was designed to ensure an orderly process as officials attend to the large number of successful applicants.
Addressing the candidates, the Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs in charge of Human Resource Development, Frank Onyeka, said the assessment would go beyond physical fitness to include discipline, character and professional conduct.
He urged the applicants to comply with the rules of the exercise, assuring them that the service was taking measures to protect the credibility of the recruitment process through collaboration with the Customs Police and other relevant units.
The Commandant of the Nigeria Customs Command and Staff College, Gwagwalada, ACG Dow Gaura, said innovations and cooperation among agencies had helped to make the exercise smooth.
The screening followed 573,680 applications received for 3,852 available positions, comprising 1,275 Superintendent, 367 Inspectorate and 2,210 Customs Assistant slots.
