The campaign organisation of the African Democratic Congress governorship candidate in Adamawa State, Amb. Engr. Omar Suleiman, has alleged a plot by some party members to forge official documents in an attempt to challenge his candidacy.
The Omarana Campaign Organisation, in a statement issued in Yola, said it had received what it described as credible intelligence that some individuals were allegedly working to manipulate party records at the ADC secretariat.
According to the campaign, the alleged plot includes mobilising party agents and election officials to append their signatures to documents purportedly being prepared for possible legal proceedings over the party’s governorship ticket.
The organisation said it was taking the allegations seriously and had begun documenting information relating to the activities of those allegedly involved in the scheme.
It further alleged that some of the persons linked to the alleged plan were being accommodated at a hotel around the Area 1, Garki axis of Abuja, warning that activities being carried out secretly could eventually be exposed.
The campaign cautioned ADC officials, agents and election personnel against signing or endorsing documents whose authenticity or purpose they could not verify, warning that involvement in alleged falsification of records or presentation of false evidence could attract legal consequences.
“No political ambition is worth sacrificing one’s liberty, reputation and future,” the campaign warned, adding that those who sponsor questionable schemes might not be available to bear the consequences when legal action eventually follows.
While describing the alleged move as an attempt to create confusion around Suleiman’s candidacy, the organisation said it remained focused on its political agenda, which it said was built around competence, accountability, inclusion and development in Adamawa State.
The campaign urged supporters to remain calm and law-abiding, saying disputes within the party should be addressed through lawful and constitutional means. It also called on relevant authorities to investigate any credible information concerning alleged attempts to falsify political documents.
Efforts to obtain reactions from the ADC state secretariat and other parties mentioned in the allegations were ongoing at the time of filing this report.
