The General Officer Comanding, 2 Division, Nigerian Army, Ibadan, Maj. Gen. Auwalu Mahmuda, has urged officers to remain tactically and operationally ahead of emerging security threats in the country.

Mahmuda gave the charge on Friday at the closing ceremony of the 2026 Inter-Brigade Combat Proficiency Competition held at the 32 Artillery Brigade, Akure, Ondo State.

Represented by Brig. Gen. Muhammed Momoh, the GOC stressed the importance of continuous training in strengthening the combat preparedness and effectiveness of military personnel.

He said, “As the Nigerian Army remains a key stakeholder in tackling the security challenges facing our country, personnel must train continuously in order to remain ahead of adversaries at all times.”

Mahmuda explained that the competition was aimed at assessing the readiness of troops while improving leadership, endurance, teamwork, initiative and organisational skills among officers.

He commended the participating formations for their professionalism, resilience and sportsmanship, while also appreciating the Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, and heads of security agencies for their support.

Five formations took part in the competition, with participants testing their abilities in shooting, weapon handling, swimming, tug-of-war, endurance running and obstacle crossing.

The 32 Artillery Brigade, Akure, emerged overall winner, followed by 4 Brigade, Benin, and 12 Brigade, Lokoja, while 42 Divisional Engineers, Ibadan, and 2 Division Garrison, Ibadan, placed fourth and fifth respectively.
