The Ondo State House of Assembly has approved the nomination of Erelu Taibat Oloruntoba as Commissioner-designate and ratified the appointment of two nominees to the state Civil Service Commission.
The lawmakers, during Thursday’s plenary in Akure, confirmed Dr Mann Omobayi Alli as Chairman-designate of the Civil Service Commission and Mr Michael Oshodi as a member-designate.
The exercise was conducted under the leadership of the Speaker, Olamide Oladiji, after the House considered and adopted the report of its Committee on Selection through a voice vote.
The nominees had appeared before the committee on Wednesday for screening after Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa submitted their names to the legislature for consideration and approval.
Presenting the committee’s report, its Vice-Chairman and Deputy Speaker, Ololade Gbegudu, said the nominees satisfactorily addressed the questions put to them and displayed adequate knowledge of the duties attached to their proposed offices.
The committee also found them academically qualified, physically and mentally fit, and sufficiently experienced to discharge their responsibilities, according to the report.
Contributions by lawmakers representing the nominees’ constituencies were also favourable, with the legislators expressing confidence in their ability to perform effectively. The House subsequently adopted a motion moved by the House Leader, Olatunji Oshati, and seconded by Sulaiman Murtala of Akoko South-East Constituency, for their confirmation.
Speaking after the confirmation, Oladiji said the legislative approval was carried out in accordance with constitutional provisions. He urged the appointees to work with the governor towards advancing the development of Ondo State.
Responding on behalf of the nominees, Oloruntoba expressed appreciation to Aiyedatiwa for the confidence reposed in them and pledged that they would justify the trust placed in them by the governor, the Assembly and the people of the state.
The Assembly also approved the appointment of five additional Special Advisers to Governor Aiyedatiwa.
