The Ondo State Government has raised its 2026 budget from N524.4bn to N769.38bn to boost infrastructure development and bridge funding gaps in roads, water supply, healthcare and other critical sectors.
The Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Olaolu Akindolire, disclosed this on Tuesday after the State Executive Council meeting, saying the increase followed a mid-year review of the implementation of the 2026 Appropriation Law.
He said the review became necessary after the first and second-quarter budget performance reports revealed increased funding demands in some Ministries, Departments and Agencies, while others recorded slower utilisation of their allocations.
Akindolire said the revised budget had been forwarded to the Ondo State House of Assembly for ratification, adding that it would enable the government to realign provisions and address emerging funding needs before the end of the year.
He disclosed that the state government planned to construct at least five kilometres of roads in each of the 18 local government areas, translating to a minimum of 90 kilometres of roads across Ondo State in 2026.
According to him, the revised budget also makes additional provision for the Adegbola–St. Mathias flyover along Oba Adesida Road in Alagbaka, Akure, while more funds have been allocated to water and healthcare projects.
“The revised budget provides the resources required to sustain ongoing projects and respond to emerging development needs across the state,” Akindolire stated.
The Commissioner for Information, Idowu Ajanaku, said the government would continue to prioritise infrastructure, while the council also approved the appointment of Prof Thompson Akinyele Akinifesi as the pioneer Ekingbade of Bolorunduro and warrant chiefs to facilitate the selection of new traditional rulers in Ikun Akoko, Ute and Ero.
