The Ondo State Government has released funds for the implementation of the 2025 Federal Government agreement with university-based staff unions, paving the way for payment of outstanding entitlements to workers of the Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa.
According to a statement, the Vice-Chancellor of OAUSTECH, Prof. Temi Emmanuel Ologunorisa, disclosed this in Okitipupa on Tuesday, saying the funds would cover arrears and consequential adjustments arising from the agreement reached with the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions, Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and National Association of Academic Technologists.
Ologunorisa said the release of the funds by the administration of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa demonstrated its commitment to workers’ welfare and the sustenance of industrial harmony in the state-owned tertiary institutions.
The VC, who expressed appreciation to the governor, said, “On behalf of the Management, Senate and Congregation of OAUSTECH, I wish to express our sincere gratitude to His Excellency, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, the Executive Governor of Ondo State, for releasing funds for the implementation of the 2025 Federal Government agreement with ASUU, NASU, SSANU and NAAT.
“This gesture is a clear testimony to Mr. Governor’s commitment to industrial harmony, staff welfare and the development of tertiary education in Ondo State. We are grateful.”
Ologunorisa assured the workers that the university management would commence the disbursement of the funds to eligible beneficiaries, urging the staff to respond to the development with renewed commitment to their duties.
Reacting to the development, the ASUU chairman at OAUSTECH, Dr Toyin Ogunbamike, described the implementation as a morale booster, saying it would encourage greater commitment to teaching and research.
The NASU chairman, Mr Kunle Akinwonmi, also commended the government, saying the payment had renewed workers’ confidence in the administration, while appreciating the VC for following up on the matter.
The SSANU branch secretary, Mr Ajayi Agboola, said the implementation would contribute to industrial peace on the university campus. He commended the governor for releasing the funds and the university management for what he described as transparent leadership.
Similarly, the NAAT chairman, Mr Davis Bamgbola, welcomed the development and praised the governor and the VC for prioritising workers’ welfare. The four unions pledged continued support for the university management and the state government.
