Four hundred and fifty residents of Akoko North-East/Akoko North-West Federal Constituency are set to undergo technical and vocational training under a Federal Government programme facilitated by their representative in the House of Representatives, Hon. Ifeoluwa Ehindero.
The development was contained in a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to Ehindero, Ibukun-Oluwa James Akeju, which disclosed that the Federal Science and Technical College, Ikare-Akoko, had been accredited as a training centre for the Federal Government’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training programme.
According to the statement, the beneficiaries, who successfully registered for the programme, will be divided into nine groups of 50 participants to receive practical training in various trades.
The training areas include poultry farming, feed production, furniture making and upholstery, welding and fabrication, vulcanising and tyre repair, electrical installation, as well as bricklaying, block laying, concrete and interlocking.
The programme is designed to equip participants with practical skills that could improve their employment prospects, entrepreneurship capacity and ability to contribute to the local economy.
The training is expected to commence shortly, with participants required to attend their assigned sessions and comply with the programme’s guidelines. Successful beneficiaries are also expected to receive recognition and certification, subject to the applicable requirements.
Speaking on the initiative, Ehindero said his intervention was aimed at bringing skills acquisition and human-capital development opportunities closer to his constituents.
He said, “Our responsibility as representatives goes beyond legislation. We must also work assiduously to create opportunities that empower our people to become self-reliant and economically productive. By facilitating this programme and securing an accredited training centre within our constituency, we are bringing the opportunity for quality technical and vocational training closer to our people.”
Ehindero urged the beneficiaries to take the training seriously and make full use of the opportunity, while appreciating President Bola Tinubu for promoting technical and vocational education and creating pathways for employment, entrepreneurship and sustainable livelihoods.
