French authorities have arrested an 18-year-old man over an alleged kidnapping network said to have targeted Real Madrid and France star Kylian Mbappe as well as several other prominent individuals.
The suspect, identified as Clement L and reportedly known by the alias Lester Z, is alleged to have been involved in a series of criminal activities between April 11 and August 19 in parts of France, including Neuilly-sur-Seine, Saint-Brice-sous-Forêt and Santenay.
According to French newspaper, Le Parisien, Mbappe, 27, was among the individuals allegedly identified by the group for a possible home invasion and abduction.
The footballer reportedly maintains a residence in Paris, where he stays during visits to France, making him one of the alleged targets identified by the suspects.
Investigators reportedly uncovered a list containing 26 potential victims from mobile phones seized from Clement’s prison cell. The alleged targets were said to include footballers, businesspeople and rappers.
Clement was already being held at Villepinte prison in Seine-Saint-Denis over separate allegations, including pimping and armed robbery, when he allegedly continued coordinating criminal activities.
The teenager was reportedly using Snapchat to communicate with members of the network while in custody, according to the report.
Following the discovery of the alleged plot, Clement was transferred to solitary confinement and remanded in pre-trial detention after being charged in Nanterre on August 21.
Mbappe, meanwhile, has continued his professional football career with Real Madrid despite the reported threat, having remained active for both the Spanish club and the French national team.
