Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State, has launched its first bakery, introducing AAUA Mede Bread to the market as part of efforts to expand its commercial activities and boost internally generated revenue.
The bakery was inaugurated on Friday by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Tomola Obamuyi, who was represented at the event by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof Adebisi Daramola.
Obamuyi described the initiative as a significant step towards strengthening the university’s entrepreneurial drive and establishing sustainable business ventures capable of serving the institution and neighbouring communities.
He said the bakery aligned with his administration’s AAUA FIRST agenda, which seeks to explore viable commercial opportunities and promote self-reliance.
The vice-chancellor assured the bakery’s operators of management’s support, urging them to maintain high production standards and prioritise product quality to win the confidence and patronage of consumers.
He subsequently declared the facility open for business, expressing optimism about its prospects and contribution to the university’s commercial development.
Earlier, the bakery’s supervisor, Oluwafunke Temitope, said the facility would produce different varieties of bread, including chocolate, wheat, coconut and butter flavours, to meet customers’ preferences.
Temitope added that the bakery employs automated production processes to promote efficiency and hygiene, noting that its products, which sell from N350, are available to students, staff and residents of neighbouring communities. She urged the public to patronise the university’s new venture.
